Spread out over public spaces, hallways and a number of hotelrooms are furniture objects by Marcel Wanders. Lights, sofas, benches, chairs.
Notably his VIP Chair in Divina Melange Wool, which was designed for the Dutch pavilioin at the World Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany. This was the same event that marked the breakthrough of the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy architects, MVRDV.
Wanders is one of the most prolific and distinguished Dutch designers, who gained international recognition with his 1996 Knotted Chair. In 2014, the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum staged the first-ever European survey exhibition of Wanders’ furniture, product, and interior designs since 1999. He is appreciated for his clear designs, often with a wink, for his original art direction and for his talent to communicate his stories. His objects fit in the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy philosophy of ‘simple luxury’. The Lights chosen for this monumental environment are the ones that play with scale. Together with the Wanders sofas, benches and chairs, they are set among other items of the Moooi collection, of which Wanders is Art Director.
