The exhibition is an initiative of Gerrit Oorthuys, collector of 20th century chairs. The variety of chairs in Lloyd Hotel inspired him to compose this exhibition. With '100 Chairs', Oorthuys temporarily extends the furniture range of Lloyd Hotel, reflects upon it, and transforms it into a collection. On show are items by Berlage, Thonet, Johannes Duiker, Gispen, Friso Kramer, Van Ravesteijn, Gerrit Rietveld, Wim Rietveld, Paul Schuitema, Mart Stam and Martin Visser, next to office and industrial chairs from anonymous designers. Designer Gielijn Escher made the poster, Kees Alberts wrote the exhibition texts.
