At the IMC Weekend schools motivated children from underresourced neighbourhoods can get acquainted with the world of science and arts. The three year curriculum includes disciplines like medicine, law, philosophy, poetry, maths, astronomy and visual arts. The courses take place in the weekend and are given voluntarily by professionals with a passion for their specialism. The Weekendschool is financed by corporations and private foundations and stems from 1998, when the first one opened at the AMC hospital, for children from the Bijlmermeer.
Lloyd Hotel hosts the certificate ceremony. It will go accompanied by an exhibition of Weekendschool pupils of 13 years old. They made self-portraits with the help of photographers Maria Heijdendael, Suzanne Karsters, and Marjolein Annegarn, and assistent Yvonne Sanders.
