'Self as Mill' is the first solo exhibition by André Vannoord, opening on Friday 23 March.
André Vannoord took to writing poetry and photographing in 1995, next to his work as topmodel and actor. Starting off with still lifes of flowers, 'contaminated' spots in Amsterdam and portraits, he graduated to making landscape images, taken with a Cambo 4x5. The pictures of his living environment in the province North-Holland, have an undefinable vulnerability. The landscape has become a poem. Because of the very long shutter speeds, what seems to emerge is a landscape in movement.

André Vannoord is the son of a baker from Zaandam who trained as an actor at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Paris. In Paris and later in Amsterdam, Vannoord developed into a top model with Ulla Models, with commissions from Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Remy Martin. Also, as an actor he played in theaterproductions of Het Toneel Speelt and Het Nationale Toneel but also in videoclips of Kane and 'Within Temptation', and commercials. Vannoord is a source of inspiration for artists, filmmakers and photographers. This led to his introduction into the Amsterdam art scene. He played a part in the 16mm film work 'Mandarin Ducks', with which artist duo De Rijke/ De Rooij represented the Netherlands at the 2005 Venice Biennale.

The exhibition 'Self as Mill' will be open till 11 April, all day every day.

With the kind support of Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, Frame Products and Visual Design.
