'The greatest good for a city is what makes it one, and the worst thing for it is what pulls it apart and makes it many'. from 'A Companion to Plato's Republic', by Nicholas White.

April has been dubbed 'Month of Philosophy' in the Netherlands. This year's theme is 'The City'.
Lloyd Time dedicates two of its Mondays to philosophies on what makes a good city.

On 14 April in the company of young street-philosophers and city-planners. The evening will be led by in-house philosopher Renate Schepen. Diners, hotel-guests, admirers of the Richard Hutten bar and you can choose to tune out or to tune in.

The opening night of the 'Month of Philosophy' takes place on 11 April in Felix Meritis. Mayor Job Cohen will hold the opening speech, whereafter visitors will be given the low-down on current philosophical thoughts about the city. One of the scarce English-spoken contributions will be by Bonnie Honig, Professor of Political Science, who will talk on what the sisterly affiliation of Antigone meant for the city. Much is expected from the late debate on feminity and the city, based on the Manhattan soap 'Sex and the City'. A feature film after the series will be released in New York soon, under the title 'Lipstick Jungle'.
