EASTER BOOK PRESENTATION:DESCENT FROM THE CROSSSaturday, 22 March, at 17.00 hrs, exhibition until 30 March Artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, and Van de Weyden painted this Biblical scene: Christ's body is taken down from the cross. Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy and respected man who was secretly a follower of Christ, obtained permission from Pilate to bury the body. A small panel on cedar wood by Rembrandt of this scene in the Alte Pinakothek of München, captured Van Ooy's imagination. She started to research how various painters throughout the ages have depicted the Biblical theme. Her publication 'The Deposition' summarizes her observations and drawings, next to the reproductions. A small exhibition of Van Ooy's drawings and her coffee table of the Deposition are on show in the Cultural Embassy until 30 March. |
