Claudy Jongstra: Cherry Blossom shutters, 2004. 13 shutters lined with felt, wool. Commissioned by Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy
Jongstra's fabrics have been used by designers like John Galiano, and on the set of the Star Wars film ‘The Phantom Menace’. Her inspiration comes from nature, raw materials and crafts.
Using wool from her own sheep and vegetable dyes, Jongstra made the ‘Cherry Blossom’ shutters for the Lloyd Hotel. This was her first exploration into wrapping felt on architectural panels. It won her and Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy the Vredeman de Vries Design Award. Jongstra also developed a mural in room 422 (pictured below right).
